The medicine woman

The ‘medicine woman’ is one of the most forgotten and repressed female archetypes in human history.
She is the wise woman, the visionary, the seer, the intuitive, the healer, the sexual priestess and the one who possesses the truth of wisdom.
She holds the gifts of healing energy and expanded consciousness.
She sees the past and the future and sees deep into the hearts of others.
Her passion is to serve and restore harmony, balance and healing to humanity and the Earth.
She is the aspect within us that is ready to return as part of a greater human awakening.
In our pre-patriarchal past, for hundreds of thousands of years, women’s medicine held a prominent place in society. She has served her community all over the world in countless ways as a shaman, wise woman, midwife, herbalist, oracle woman, priestess, sacred dancer, seer and queen.
Her vision and gifts of healing were honored and integrated into each of the lives of those she served.
She brought wisdom and humility to powerful rulers through her oracle gifts that guided the spirit.
She taught goddess worship respecting the cycles and fertility of the Earth.
Her shamanic vision was an ancient remedy for the soul.
Their myths and stories have given meaning to even the deepest suffering.
She had the keys to her sexual power and the divine union between masculine and feminine.
For a time, across many cultures, her archetype was suppressed, condemned, punished, distorted and ultimately forgotten, as patriarchal systems of rule based on domination denied the value of the medicine woman.
They were denigrated and the Earth, symbol of the feminine, was considered evil and inferior.
The core of female power has been forgotten and even women have forgotten to see themselves as powerful.
However, the medicine woman is now returning. Millions of women on this planet have this archetype deep in their hearts and stomachs. Many of us have memories of our ancestral powers and the many lifetimes we have lived in which we put those powers to use.
We also carry the wound of having been denied, punished and repressed.
We are now ready to re-emerge into the complexity of the modern world. A world where some women enjoy unprecedented freedoms and others still live with the suppression of their rights as in medieval times.
However, what all of these women have in common is that at this time in humanity, we have the power and the responsibility to claim and live in our sacred wisdom, awakening the gifts we have each come bring to society.
We cannot wait for others to tell us we exist or receive permission to express our power again.
We know that we have the power and that we are needed.
And if our souls have chosen to incarnate now, it is for a great purpose, which only we can discover.
It is up to us to examine our true motivations and passions, to recognize ourselves as medicine women, to heal ourselves, and to discover how our passion for life becomes our sacred purpose.
We are teachers, healers, counselors, guides, trainers, ceremonial planners, social and spiritual activists, businesswomen, visionaries, communicators and artists.
We need to remember who we are and awaken our innate powers and passion.
When we do, our work will bring needed balance and healing to the world.
